As an Azerbaijani Citizen, whats your feeling now after your country got the occupied lands back?

It was the dream of all Azerbaijani people to return our lands. For almost 30 years our lands were under occupation, as a result of that conflict, about 1 million Azerbaijanis became refugees and internally displaced persons.

Throughout September and October, everyone in Azerbaijan was daily waiting for news about new settlements were liberated from the Armenian occupation. And the day when our president announced the liberation of Shusha was greeted by all the people with jubilation. All people crowded the streets of cities and celebrating and congratulating each other. This war and victory brought people together. The whole cities was hung with flags.

It is difficult to describe the feeling of joy and pride that overwhelmed us that day. After all, a 30-year dream has come true, and historical justice has been restored.

Even during the war, many citizens hung the flag of Azerbaijan on the windows as a sign of support for our army.

Whats the importante of the City of Susha for Azerbaijani culture and history?

The liberation of Shusha has undoubtedly become a historical, very important event. This city lives in the heart of every Azerbaijani. The city of Shusha is called “the pearl of Azerbaijan”, “the conservatory of the Caucasus”. This ancient and most important city of the Karabakh Khanate in the 18th-19th centuries, which played the role of a major cultural and political center, which became the birthplace of genius poets, great singers and composers, was seriously damaged in 1992 during the war . The Armenians destroyed the monuments of the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan located here. And now the process of their restoration lies ahead.

Also the liberation of Shusha was the most important task of the Azerbaijani army during the war. The liberation of Shusha was of strategic importance for Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani people and, in fact, predetermined the entire outcome of the war. As political analysts noted, Shusha is the key to Karabakh.

Do you know anyone that come from one of these occupied cities and had to change their lives because of the occupation?

Many of my friends and work colleagues are internally displaced persons from occupied areas that now was allready liberated. From Fuzuli, Zangilan, Jebrail, Aghdam, Shusha. Of course, the conflict affected them, when their families were forced to leave their homes because of the Armenian aggression. It turns out that they have lived most of their lives far away from their home, built their lives here, but still they retained very fond memories of their childhood in their hometown or village. You should have seen how they rejoiced with tears in their eyes when our president announced the liberation of their area. And we were all sincerely happy with our colleagues.
